چکیده

A computer implementation of Gödel’s algorithm for class formation in Mathematica was used to formulate definitions and theorems about iteration in Gödel’s class theory. The intent is to use this approach for automated reasoning about a variety of applications of iteration using McCune’s automated reasoning program Otter. The applications include the theory of transitive closures of relations, the arithmetic of natural numbers, construction of invariant subsets, and the Schröder-Bernstein theorem.

Primitive recursion in niteness spaces

We study iteration and recursion operators in the multiset relational model of linear logic and prove them nitary in the sense of the niteness spaces recently introduced by Ehrhard. This provides a denotational semantics of Gödel's system T and paves the way for a systematic study of a large class of algorithms, following the ideas of Girard's quantitative semantics in a standard algebraic sett...

Diagrammatic Semantics for Digital Circuits

We introduce a general diagrammatic theory of digital circuits, based on connections between monoidal categories and graph rewriting. The main achievement of the paper is conceptual, filling a foundational gap in reasoning syntactically and symbolically about a large class of digital circuits (discrete values, discrete delays, feedback). This complements the dominant approach to circuit modelli...

Certainty, probability and abduction: why we should look to C.S. Peirce rather than Gödel for a theory of clinical reasoning.

This paper argues that Gödel's proof does not provide the appropriate conceptual basis on which to counter the claims of evidence-based medicine. The nature of, and differences between, deductive, inductive and abductive inference are briefly surveyed. The work of the American logician C.S. Peirce is introduced as a possible framework for a theory of clinical reasoning which can ground the clai...

A Theory of Action for MultiAgent Planning

A theory of action suitable for reasoning about events in multiagent or dynamically changing environments is prescntcrl. A device called a process model is used to represent the observable behavior of an agent in performing an action. This model is more general than previous models of act ion, allowing sequencing, selection, nondeterminism, iteration, and parallelism to be represented. It is sh...

The Effect of Bayesian Reasoning Training on the Results of Clinical Reasoning Tests of Interns

Introduction: Clinical reasoning includes a range of thinking about clinical medicine at all stages of patient evaluation. Bayesian theory can be used to refute or confirm differential diagnoses in the clinical reasoning process. In this way, by learning the basic mathematical language of probability in medicine, we can change our beliefs according to new evidence. The aim of this study is to i...
